Hash generator
Compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 checksums for text or a file, all at once. Hashing runs on your device with the browser’s built-in crypto, so the files you check are never uploaded.
Free in your browser — no sign-up. Install from the Microsoft Store to use it offline on Windows 10 and 11.
How to use it
- Open the Hash Generator.
- Type or paste text, or drop a file to hash its raw bytes.
- Copy the hash you need, or compare it with a published checksum.

- Four algorithms at once — MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512.
- Text or files — file hashes are computed on the exact bytes, so they match

- Hash comparison — check two hashes side by side. PRO
Frequently asked questions
Which hash should I use?
Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for integrity checks. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes and should only be used to match legacy checksums.
Should I hash passwords with SHA-256?
No. Passwords need a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2, bcrypt or scrypt. Fast hashes like SHA-256 are designed for checksums.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are read and hashed locally on your device.
